Fun day trip to Monroe!

One of my co-workers noticed on the schedule that too many people were scheduled to work today.  I debated and debated, and finally decided to use 8 hours of my PTO (paid time off) to stay home with Brian and the girls.  Like I've said before, I'm always looking for fun things for us to go do.  Our zoo membership is recognized by other zoos around the state and even other states!  So I looked up the information, and Brian and I decided to go to Monroe!

We slept late today, each ate breakfast, got ready to go and left home around 9:30 this morning.  We had originally planned to go straight to the zoo, but it was right at 11:00am when we got into Monroe, so we decided to go eat first instead.  Brian wanted a "Mom and Pop" place to eat, so I found Magic Grill.  It has food like the old Ray's Peges.  The girls each got chicken and French fries, of course, and Brian and I got the hamburger specials.  It was all yummy!!

After that, I got the great idea to visit the Duck Commander store; this is the store where the Duck Dynasty workshop is - this is a hit reality TV show about the Robertsons who have built a dynasty making duck calls.  Their TV show is built on faith and family; it is a funny, but good show!

All of the men in the family have full, furry beards!  This was a deer head they had "decorated!"
We then headed to the Louisiana Purchase Zoo.  It was hot, but there was plenty of shade and plenty of buildings to go into to cool off - the reptile exhibit, the creatures of the night exhibit and the bug exhibit.  I liked that they had different animals, like a zebra, hippo and water buffalo for example.

My college mascot!
I love these two pictures of Brian and me with our girls!

On the drive home, we stopped at McDonald's in Columbia for ice cream (and a yogurt parfait for Molly - shhh, don't tell her it's not ice cream!)!

We had a really fun day today, and 8 hours of PTO was definitely worth it!
