This past Tuesday was Mary Claire's day to be the "helper" at school. The students rotate being helper, and they seem to love their special days.
I asked Mary Claire what she did as helper, and she told me that she was the leader when they went to church with "Jesus Charlie." I just about died laughing! "Jesus Charlie" is actually Father Charlie, a young parish priest (I call him young because he is my age - ha!). Mary Claire told me also that they wear either white or purple for weddings, so I know she was paying attention.
Well, to add even more to the story, Father Charlie said mass Saturday afternoon. After mass, Nannie stopped with Mary Claire to tell Father Charlie about Mary Claire calling him "Jesus Charlie." He told us that Mrs. Sarah Kate was telling the class about different parts of the church. She was trying to explain the Monstrance (yes, unfortunately, I had to look it up) to the class; the students kept hearing "MONSTERS" instead! So the class took a tour of the church to see the Monstrance. I asked Mary Claire what the Monstrance is and she told me, "It holds the bread."
(Side note: the Monstrance is the vessel that holds the Body of Jesus during adoration.)
Ah, the joys of a Catholic education! I'm looking forward to learning many more things about the church and mass through my girls!

OLPS Trunk-or-Treat 2012
I like keeping the girls active in events and functions, especially church and school functions. OLPS had about 15 vehicles decorated and parked in a parking lot giving out candy and such. The girls wore their costumes and got lots of compliments! :)
This car definitely won for best decorated!
Time for hot dogs, chips and CANDY!

Howdy Neighbor Day 2012
Jena has a small "festival" each year. Aunt Nel had a booth set up, so she invited us to come and have fun! I am always looking for fun things to do around the area, so this was great!
In front of Aunt Nel's booth:
The booths were set up at a really nice park
Lunch break. We had chicken tenders, fried fish, french fries, hot dogs and Cokes!
Funnel Cakes.....yummy!
Mary Claire wouldn't try the funnel cake, but Molly did! She LOVED it! (I do, too!)

Happy (belated) 94th birthday Granddad!
We celebrated Granddad's 94th birthday on his birthday, October 15th. I had planned on putting up the pictures that evening, but Brian dropped our laptop that day. (Insert sad face).
So here are a few pictures:
We had a pizza, cake and ice cream....must be trying to start a tradition!

Pumpkin Carving 2012
I bought this carving kit last year on clearance. Neither Brian nor I knew how handy they actually are!
Easy peasy!Molly was a little hesitant to get the "guts" out,
but Mary Claire was a big helper! She helped Mrs. Sarah Kate at school doing this, so she was a pro!
The final product!
Halloween Costume Photo Shoot with Poppa John
of the girls dressing with a theme. We had originally wanted Dora and Boots, but the only Boots
costumes I could find were baby sizes - too small for Molly.
So I started looking for ideas on the Internet and saw Cowboy and Indian.....so we changed it to Cowgirl and Indian! We gave Mary Claire the choice of which one to be - she wanted the cowgirl! So, by default, Molly is our little Indian!! We love, love, love their costumes!
I just love these pictures....and Poppa's new camera! Thank you Poppa John for being our photographer!

Rapides Parish Fair 2012
Nannie and I brought the girls to the fair. We got there right as it opened on Wednesday, the very first day; and thank goodness we did! When we left the number of cars parked on the highway was astonishing!
The girls had a WONDERFUL time on all the rides they were able to ride! Mary Claire surprises me with her boldness and carefreeness, and Molly follows right behind her! Mary Claire says her favorites are the roller coaster and the "blanket slide!"
Love, love, love this look!
Proof that Nannie was there!
Not my best angle, but I wanted one of all of us on the big ferris wheel!
Molly figured out that the shaft in the middle would bring them higher!
