"Jesus Charlie"

This past Tuesday was Mary Claire's day to be the "helper" at school.  The students rotate being helper, and they seem to love their special days.

I asked Mary Claire what she did as helper, and she told me that she was the leader when they went to church with "Jesus Charlie."  I just about died laughing!  "Jesus Charlie" is actually Father Charlie, a young parish priest (I call him young because he is my age - ha!).  Mary Claire told me also that they wear either white or purple for weddings, so I know she was paying attention.

Well, to add even more to the story, Father Charlie said mass Saturday afternoon.  After mass, Nannie stopped with Mary Claire to tell Father Charlie about Mary Claire calling him "Jesus Charlie."  He told us that Mrs. Sarah Kate was telling the class about different parts of the church.  She was trying to explain the Monstrance (yes, unfortunately, I had to look it up) to the class; the students kept hearing "MONSTERS" instead!  So the class took a tour of the church to see the Monstrance.  I asked Mary Claire what the Monstrance is and she told me, "It holds the bread."

(Side note:  the Monstrance is the vessel that holds the Body of Jesus during adoration.)

Ah, the joys of a Catholic education!  I'm looking forward to learning many more things about the church and mass through my girls!
