Well, my big girl starts school tomorrow! She will be in the Preschool 3 class at Our Lady of Prompt Succor. I'm excited to begin this new phase, but I'm incredibly sad for her to be leaving Alexandria Day Care. (She will be going back to day care for holidays and the summer, but her learning days there are over.)
I just wanted to write down a few thoughts I have for Mary Claire as she enters this new phase of her life.
Dear Mary Claire,
First off, I love you more than you can ever imagine. I've prayed about you going to "big school" more times than I can count. In some ways I feel like your childhood is being shortened, but, in the end, I know this is the right decision. Your daddy and I want you to have only the very best presented to you education wise, and we felt that OLPS is the place to give that to you. We knew that once we could get our feet in the door that you and Molly would be in the best place. The Preschool 3 program had an opening and we signed you up.
Before I get into all the mushy stuff, I want to tell you that your day care, Alexandria Day Care, is amazing! Their staff are not only babysitters; they are teachers and friends and second-mommies as well!! You have learned so much from that day care that I feel indebted to them. I would have paid twice the money we have paid them for you to go there. I am planning a separate post on the day care, so I'll move on to the mushy stuff now!
Mary Claire, you are an amazing child! You amazed everyone from the time you were born at a whopping 9 pounds, 9 ounces! You were a fairly easy baby who had very little trouble with transitions, from switching day cares at 8 months, moving from the bottle to the sippy cup, getting rid of your "bitty," and transitioning from little sister to big sister, you did amazingly well! I'm hoping that this means this new school is another smooth transition for you.
You are very shy at first, just like me! I really dislike this quality about myself, so I'm going to try extra hard to get you out of your shell sooner. But once you begin to spend time with someone, especially little girls your age, everyone just LOVES you!
Why does everyone love you, Mary Claire?? It's because you are smart and tender-hearted and kind and respectful of your teachers. It warms my heart to hear Mrs. Trudy and Ms. Jessica and Ms. Janell tell me how sweet you are and that you are always listening and you never get in trouble! (I do wish you were more like that at home, though!) In fact, Ms. Janell told me that they have "never had a little girl like you!" I am so proud of you for this, Mary Claire!
Mary Claire, this is a list of all the things you know already that you've been taught by the wonderful teachers at Alexandria Day Care:
ABCs, numbers to about 28, shapes, colors, months, days of the week, five senses, how to spell your name, left from right. You are very smart!!
I am also proud that you know how to say the Blessing before Meals!
In closing, I just want to say again how proud I am of you, Mary Claire!! You are a wonderful daughter and little girl! I love being called your mother. You are very sweet and tender-hearted and it just warms my heart to see you playing with your friends at day care and I'm looking forward to seeing you make some new and special friends to keep for the many years you will attend OLPS! It breaks my heart to know that you won't see your very first friends (Layla, JaZoria, Khyza and Heaven) much anymore. So my prayer for you tonight as you begin this new journey is that everyone, teachers and students alike, see you as the bright, sweet, kind, tender-hearted little girl that I know and Daddy knows and Nannie and Poppa know and everyone at Alexandria Day Care knows. I pray you are not too shy and that you listen and respect your teachers and that you make new friends.
Just keep being YOU my beautiful girl!
I love you more than you can imagine,
Love, Mommy
